The Ask

Icons play a vital role in Kotak’s digital interfaces — simplifying communication and enhancing visual consistency across platforms. The goal of this project was to create a robust, scalable icon system built on a unified 24px grid, ensuring visual harmony, balance, and adaptability across all digital touchpoints.

PROBLEM identified

Kotak’s existing iconography lacked standardization, resulting in inconsistencies in padding, stroke weights, and proportions. This impacted both usability and brand coherence across web and mobile products.

The Design System

To develop a standardized 24x24px icon framework ensuring

Grid & Frame

Each icon is constructed within a 24x24px frame using a 1px grid system.This foundation ensures precision, consistency, and scalability across all icons.

Keyline shapes

Four basic shapes act as structural guides:

Padding Rules

A minimum padding of 2px ensures breathing space around each icon.

Designers can scale icons within the 2–3px padding range to achieve visual balance.

Visual Consistency

To maintain harmony, icons are aligned within their respective keyline shapes, using consistent stroke weights and curves. Flexible padding rules are applied to complex iconsto preserve optical balance.

Result

A cohesive, brand-aligned, and developer-friendly icon library that strengthens Kotak’s design system foundation.
